Velika Pisanica district is situated in the northern part of Bjelovar – Bilogora County, on the southern slopes of Bilogora. The District is comprised of 8 settlements on the area of 83,67km2, and, according to the last population census, it has 2 251 residents. Administrative centre of the District is Velika Pisanica which has 1 181 residents. Other settlements are Polum with 49 residents, Čađavac with 116, Nova Pisanica with 114, Babinac with 399, Ribnjačka with 184, Bedenička with 23 and Bačkovica with 85 residents. It’s interesting and not commonly known, that Velika Pisanica is 13 kilometers long. Velika Pisanica borders in the west with Šandrovac District, in the south-west with Nova Rača District, in south and east with the Veliki Grđevac District, and in the north it borders with Virovitica – Podravina County.
The central part of the Velika Pisanica has a status of protected important cultural heritage of 3rd category. The settlement’s centre is dominated by churches of Saint Lazarus from 1724 and parochial church of Jesus’ Heart with the parochial office from 1908. The festivity of Jesus’ Heart is also celebrated as Velika Pisanica District Day and it’s celebrated every year.
District is, in the cooperation with its residents, very active in the various fields with the aim of improving living and residing quality for all its residents. The quality of living in Velika Pisanica is based upon conserved nature, development of small entrepreneurship and crafts, ecological agriculture, continental and recreational tourism, as well as on concern for every social group of the society, on development of residents’ associations, and thus promoting the principles of the sustained growth and life in harmony with the nature.
